Summer 2008 Water Ramp Program

WATER RAMP

The Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club water ramp programs all take place in the summer months at the facility on Blackcomb Mountain. The site boasts a number of different sized jumps. A small jump suitable for beginners and young skiers is also available at the site. Trampoline and Dartfish Video Analysis are an integral part of the program. WBFSC Head Coach Mcdonell and Andrew Clough coach the Water Ramp training as well as additional coaches. Participants are encouraged to bring there own gear but there is gear available for rent (see faqs page). Helmets and life jackets are mandatory. Wet suit is recommended. Please strap skis to boots. Sunscreen is advised.

4 Day camps run daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily. Mini Camps run Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday 9:00am to 12:00pm. Both programs include both trampoline and water ramp training.

TRAMPOLINE

The Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club uses trampoline training in conjunction with the water ramp program. Our coaches use a progressions philosophy to help athletes minimize risk while perfecting skills. Athletes are able to learn skills on trampoline before moving to the water ramp. Our coaches are LII Certified trampoline coaches as well as freestyle coaches. Our trampoline’s are at ground level for safety and have high performance springs and beds. We also have a spotting rig with twisting belts for learning inverts.

RAMP CAMP FAQ

Where is the facility?
The ramp is located above base 2. Drive through lot 7 under the excaliber gondola, under the Magic Chair and turn right.

Do you have equipment for rent?
Yes we have Skis / $10.00, Life Jackets / $5.00, and Wetsuits / $10.00. WBFSC members receive free ski rentals.

What equipment do I need to bring?
You should bring your own ski boots and helmet. Also bring your own life jacket and wetsuit if you don’t want to rent. It’s also a good idea to have your own skis.

Is the water ramping bad for my equipment?
If you ramp frequently boot liners can get damaged. We suggest that you use old boots or purchase separate liners from Sure Foot in Whistler. ($20 - $30). Skis also need to be waxed every session so most people purchase parafin wax (canning wax) to protect there bases which can be applied at the ramp. Also if you ramp a lot and hit the larger jumps skis can break due to being bent from both ends as you hit the water.

Should I bring a lunch?
Yes there is no food or drinking water available at the ramp so make sure you bring something. Also please be sure to take all garbage with you as the site has many resident bears.

Is Trampoline included in the program?
Yes trampoline is a crucial part of our program and we have two high performance trampolines with a spotting rig.
